Portsmouth Sports Club
The September meeting of the Portsmouth Sports Club was held at the Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club. Past president Cindy Morris was recognized for her outstanding service to the club. A check for $13,170 was presented to the foundation, which will be used for local scholarships.
Guest speaker was NBA referee Tony Brothers. Tony, who grew up in Norfolk, has refereed over 1,700 NBA games. He is considered one of the best officials in the sport. Tony gave the members a behind the scenes view of how he approaches each and every game he works. His humorous and lively presentation was thoroughly enjoyed by the members. Tony also stressed that athletes have a responsibility for giving back to their communities. His particular foundation is set up to help give assistance to single moms.
The Sports Club is gearing up for their silent auction scheduled for November 1st at Portsmouth's Ambassador Club.
